The first wife carrying contest in Australia was held 24th of May 1998 at Meadowlands Park, Carindale.  There were six couples competiting each other and trying to win the first price.  The price wasn't just a normal everyday price of money but the wife's weight of beer.  The beer was donated by Castlemine Perkins brewery. 

The winners of the contest
